Tapping Into Spirituality: Connecting With Your Higher Self

Tapping into your spirituality has many benefits. It can help you become more compassionate, more gracious, and more self-actualized. There are plenty of ways to connect with your higher self. Here are the best ways to become more spiritual.

Go to Church

Religion is a form of spirituality, but whether it speaks to you or not is something you have to discover. For many people, believing in a higher power provides a sense of purpose. You believe God (or another being) has a plan for you. You trust in Him (or Her or whoever) to provide for you and help you make the right decisions.

If you think religion might be for you, find a local church you can attend. Going to church on Sunday gives you a place to belong and a weekly message on how to live and trust in God. Maybe you’re only able to attend during the holidays. The Advent season is a perfect time to connect with your spirituality. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, you will light the Advent candles and prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ. Whenever you decide to attend church, you’ll find a welcoming space for you to connect with religion and your spirituality.

Do Yoga

The practice of yoga can help you feel more spiritual, while also providing incredible mental and physical health benefits. When you attend a yoga class or practice at home, you’re encouraged to calm your mind. Your teacher will ask you to keep negative thoughts out of your mind—in fact, many teachers ask you to try to keep all thoughts out of your mind.

You can acknowledge anything that appears and then let it float away. All of your focus is on your breathing, which is great for your physical health. An excellent yoga session will clear your mind while also working your body. You’ll practice your balance, stretch out your muscles, and gain more control over your body. Yoga asks us to respect ourselves and our practice. This form of spirituality allows you to connect with your higher self and your greater purpose.

Meditate

Spending a few minutes meditating every day is extremely good for you, and it allows you to connect with the world around you. Meditation has incredible physical health benefits, but it’s also very good for your mental health. It can reduce your stress and increase your emotional intelligence. It helps you feel connected to yourself and others. It can even improve your ability to learn. Meditation can be a part of yoga, or it can be its own practice. If you take a few minutes every day to sit quietly and focus on your breathing, you’ll notice huge changes.

Read Self-Help Books

Spirituality is about being connected with yourself, and what better way to learn about you than through self-help books? There are tons of self-help books out there and you can find the one perfect for what you’re looking to accomplish. Do you want to improve your self-talk? Try Rachel Hollis’s “Girl, Wash Your Face.” If you’re looking to tidy up your life, check out Marie Kondo’s game-changing book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.” If you need to shed some emotional baggage, grab “Lightly” by Francine Jay. Whatever you’re looking to accomplish, you can find a book for it (and that’s not even including the incredible benefits of reading). Make yourself your project this year and improve your spirituality.
